MFT's August Creative Team Challenge

In 2011, MFT is working harder than ever to inspire you, and we have come up with something we think you'll really enjoy. Our Design Team Creative Challenge is a new monthly feature, where we challenge our design team to explore their creative side using a specific theme, product or technique. This month, we're all making cards featuring Fun Folds! Visit Kim's Blog for a full list of designers that have taken up the challenge!

In San Diego it is already time to start getting ready to go back to school, new clothes and new school supplies! One of friend's daughters is starting kindergarden so with her in mind I made a Criss Cross Card that also holds a gift card.

There is a great tutorial on making a Criss Cross Card in the resource section at Splitcoaststampers. I wanted my card to be a little wider so I used a 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 base.

Cut two pieces of cardstock to 5 1/2" x 11" for the card base and score at 5 1/2". Then cut for corner to corner as shown above, on the left side on one of pieces of the cardstock and on the right on the other.

Add adhesive to the center of the 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" portion and adhere the second 5 1/2" by 5 1/2" section to the other. This will form the base of card. You can follow the rest of the tutorial allowing for the larger card size.

I used one of my Pure Innocence stamps, Book in Hand, colored her with Copics, and paper pieced her sweater.

I cut a band to go around the card, and added stitching and ribbon. I die cut the scissors and ruler for the  Sew Nifty Die-namics and Stamp set and attached them with Baker's Twine in Charcoal. I just love the way these dies cut little holes to hang the cut out pieces!

The panel that fits in the pocket is cut 5 1/4 x 5 1/4. I rounded the top corners, used the Rounded Banner Trio Die to make my tab, and added a sentiment from You Make the Grade. I added a pocket to hold a gift card to Target or Staples. The border at the top of the gift card pocket is cut with the Solid Bracket Die. The inside of the the card is big enough to add a couple of new pencils or pens too.

Thanks for stopping by today!!
