MFT'S October Creative Challenge

Welcome to MFT's October Creative Challenge! The MFT Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature, where we are challenged to explore our creative side using a specific theme, product, or technique. This month we are exploring ideas and projects to help us Count Down to Christmas.

Be sure to check out the MFT Blog for a list of all the designers who have a project to share with you today.

Every year at the Holidays I need a lot of small gifts for my co-workers, hostess gifts, neighbors, etc. Quite often it baked goods, sets of handmade cards, or a bottle of wine. I love that handmade packing makes any gift special. But the closer it gets to the Holidays the less time I have! This year I decided to plan ahead, making gift card holders, tags, and bags early, and have them all in one place when I need them. I wanted the packing to be able to mix and match.

First I cut some doilies, which make really pretty toppers. These doilies are cut with the High Tea, Dainty Doily, and Dizzy Doily Die-namics.

Then I gathered together Hemp Cord, twines, and ribbons from my stash.

Small clothes pins work get to attach a tag or hold a package shut. To make these clothes pins I picked up a bag of small, wooden clothes pins at Michaels.  Then I sponged on color to the wood using MFT Inks in Wild Cherry, Jellybean Green, and Kraft. To add the sparkle I brushed Sheer Sparkle Glitter Glaze. If you haven't tried this glaze you need to! It is easy to brush on, dries fast, and I love the sparkle!

Then I gathered together simple, inexpensive  paper bags in a variety of sizes. You can dress up your bags using stamps or stencils. Here I used the Stargaze Stencil and stamps from the Snowflake Splendor Stamp Set.

I knew I would want some Gift Card Holders in my stash! I made these so the they could be tied on packages, attached to a Christmas Tree, or added to the inside of a card.

The gift card holder is cut with the Gift Card Pocket - Vertical Die-namics and adhered to a tag cut with the Pierced Traditional Tag STAX Die-namics.

I used the Starry Christmas Stamp Set for the Christmas Tree and sentiment.

On this gift card holders I added the flower with the Poinsettia Die-namics. LOVE this die!

Here is an example of a gift bag put together. I used the Snowflake Splendor Stamp Set and coordinating Snowflake Splendor Die-namics.

I used some MFT Whip Cream Felt on my tag.

Next I created a few tags. I will be adding more tags to stash over the next couple of months.

This tag is cut with the Decorative Circle Tag STAX and Dove is from the Starry Christmas Stamp Set.  The dove is layered on a doily cut with the smaller die in the Dizzy Doily Duo Die-namics.

The cut reindeer is also from the Starry Christmas Stamp Set. I used the Tree Lines and Snow Drifts Die-namics to add the trees and snow. This tag is cut with the Tag, You're It Die-namics. I used a little burlap to add some texture.

This is an example of how to use a doily for a topper. Adds such a pretty touch to a Kraft Bag!

Here is another example of a bag put together. Here the sentiment is from the Holiday Subway Art Stamp Set.

Pretty tags for wine bottle is another item I like to have ready to go!

The tags are cut with the Let’s Toast Die-namics.

Here I used the Poinsettia Die-namics and the Swiss Dots Die-namics to create the background.

Here are the products I used for my projects:
